Timetables for a service exported from Ticketer can be made up of more than one file per period of operation. For example, Monday to Friday, Saturday and School Trips may be published to BODS as separate files. Each file should have the same RevisionNumber in the header so that consumers can display the whole timetable for the week correctly, or present them correctly in journey plans.
There is an issue where the RevisionNumbers for such files are not the same, where they should be. This has been ongoing for several months and affects hundreds of services. Ticketer is rolling out a fix to its customers, which is in test.
Something interesting to note is that Transmach is common theme on some of these issues. They are the agent for a number of operators who have similar revision number issues. Stephensons of Essex and NIBS Bus for example and they are full of revision number errors (alongside a silly amount of other errors that are out of scope of this thread). Bus Link and Brookline similarly having issues and both Transmach suppliers.
Ticketer don’t seem to be as bad anymore (unless there’s one or two issues occasionally but not as bad as it was). Transmach has taken the lead on providing poor data.
We understand, from updates to OpDI this week, that DfT proposals for changes to the way that TXC data is provided, which should address this issue in full, has been through consultation and has support.
The next step from our perspective is to understand the final proposal (post consultation), and timescales for implementation by BODS and data publishers
Data provided by Transmach is still regularly being published with issues with revision numbers. Presumably this is because they seem to be doing things a lot more manually and on a route by route basis, but Transmachs absence of proper systems, shouldn’t mean that data users have to keep putting up with such issues.
We understand that consultation is now complete on the DfT updated guidance to the TXC 2.4 PTI profile and that the update is ready for DfT to give the go ahead to press the ‘go live’ button to publish the new guidance to all BODS contacts.
