GTFS RT - "current_status: 2" and "current_stop_sequence: 0"

Hi Everyone,

I got questions related to GTFS RT and I hope to have your advice.

When I decoded the protobuf file (BODS GTFS RT), I notice there is no information in the “vehicle” fields “current_stop_sequence” and “current_status”. I also tried another way to decode the file and I observe that: “current_status” always shows value of 2, and the “current_stop_sequence” is always 0.

Does it mean that BODS does not update this information? Thank you so much!

I am currently working on the Bus Open Data programme and I can confirm that BODS does not update that information.

GTFS RT is a conversion of the SIRI VM published by operators to BODS. Neither of the two data points you mention are required in the source data and are not calculated separately.

Thanks so much for your information.

That’s interesting and slightly frustrating to hear. The BODS GTFS-RT feed used to contain current_stop_sequence and current_status. Do you know why it has been removed?

Last September, we (Open Innovations) collected BODS data and made use of these fields to compare real buses to the timetable. The specific method we used for that would now no longer work if those fields aren’t populated.

We started our own archive of BODS data in June and noticed that current_stop_sequence and current_status are missing from our earliest data. So they were removed some time between September 24 and June 25.
